Collaborative Editing

PractiTest supports real-time collaborative editing across all main entities: Requirements, Issues, Tests, Test Sets, and Milestones. This capability will help teams to collaborate more effectively, avoid conflicts, and prevent accidental overwrites.

When multiple users are viewing the same entity, you’ll see their avatars at the top of the form. These avatars update dynamically as users enter or leave the entity.

  • A green dot next to an avatar means the user is actively viewing the entity.
  • A gray dot means the user has the entity open, but it’s not currently the active tab in their browser.

All users can make changes to the same entity at the same time. PractiTest provides real-time visibility into which users are actively editing which fields.

  • As a user moves between fields, the highlight dynamically follows their active location.
  • When a user is working on a specific field, you’ll see a color-highlighted border around that field along with the user’s initials.
  • If multiple users are editing different fields simultaneously, each user is represented by a unique color, making it easy to distinguish who is working where.

Once one user saves their edits:

  • Other users’ Save button becomes disabled.
  • A message will be shown:“You are not working on the latest version of this form. Please pull the latest changes before saving yours.”
  • A “Pull Changes” button will appear next to the disabled Save button.

Resolving Conflicts

If your edits do not overlap with the other user’s changes, clicking “Pull Changes” will simply sync the data and allow you to continue editing.

If there’s a conflict (i.e., the same field was edited by multiple users), you’ll be prompted to resolve the conflict. A pop-up window will appear with the message: “Resolve conflicts”, displaying a side-by-side comparison:

  • On the left: Your version
  • On the right: The other user’s version

You can choose one of the following option:

  • Accept the other user’s changes
  • Keep your own and overwrite theirs.
